Methodology

How we get the numbers

No vendor partnerships, no paid data, no shortcuts. Every Pulse report follows the same three-step methodology.

1. Sample & crawl

We build a sample frame from local-business directories, Google Business Profile, and industry associations across the USA, UK, Canada, and Nigeria. Each report draws 250–800 sites depending on industry size. We crawl every site through a real headless Chrome instance — no shortcuts, no scraped third-party data.

2. Measure & benchmark

Every site runs through a 14-point check: Lighthouse Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices, SEO; Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP); on-page audit (schema, meta, alt-text, headings); and a conversion proxy (CTA presence, form complexity, trust signals). We anonymize, aggregate, and publish quartile distributions only.

3. Quarterly cadence

New industry-specific report every quarter, plus an annual State of Web Performance report each January. Sites we crawled previously get re-crawled so we can track YoY trends. All raw aggregated data is available on request to academic researchers and journalists.
